About Wendy Jaquet
Wendy Jaquet is a Democrat serving her seventh term representing Idaho’s District 25 A. District 25 is comprised of all of Blaine, Camas, Lincoln and Gooding counties.

Representative Jaquet serves on the House Revenue and Taxation Committee and the Engergy, Environment and Technology Committee. In previous sessions Jaquet has served on the Health and Welfare, Judiciary and Rules, Environmental Affairs, Education, Agriculture, Natural Resources and State Affairs Committees.

As the House Democratic Leader, Representative Jaquet also serves on Legislative Council and the House Ways and Means Committee. The latter is a leadership committee which approves legislation for printing late in the session. Legislative Council establishes the policies and procedures for the upcoming legislative session and evaluates the prior sessions for improvements.

In her first term Jaquet served on the interim committee on County Optional Forms of Government. She has served on Governor Batt’s Medicaid Reform Committee, a review of the Personnel System, the interim committee on Property Rights, the Reading Committee, the 2002 Olympic Committee and the Governor’s Council on Adolescent Pregnancy. She was appointed to the Governor’s Safe Schools Committee, the County CAFO Committee, she co-chaired the Rules rewrite of the Children’s Treatment efforts, served on the Privacy interim committee, and the Governor’s Committee on Rural Economic Development, the Sales Tax Evaluation Task Force, and the Natural Resources and Property Taxes Committees. She's is currently serving on the Engergy Interim Committee.

Prior to serving in the Idaho Legislature, Representative Jaquet was the Executive Director of the Sun Valley-Ketchum Chamber of Commerce during a period of membership and financial growth and success. Jaquet coordinated the very successful Ketchum Wagon Days and served as Grand Marshall in September, 2001.

Representative Jaquet and her husband Jim who retired as Ketchum’s City Administrator are originally from Seattle having both attended the University of Washington and obtaining degrees in Political Science and graduate degrees in Public Administration. Their two married sons, Michael and Brian, currently live and work in San Mateo and New York City.

Legislative Accomplishments:

Representative Jaquet is especially proud of her legislative accomplishments which include the following:

  • Providing life insurers pay interest on death benefits

  • Preventing health insurers from exempting recreation injuries from benefits

  • Provide exception to 21 years of age requirement to legally enter or remain on premises licensed to serve alcohol at theaters during live performances

  • Repeal term limits for planning and zoning commissioners with concurrence of 2/3 vote of governing board

  • Change death row inmate solitary confinement to maximum security at director’s discretion

  • Adding Hepatitis B to the list of required immunizations for preschoolers

  • Obtaining funding for the Gooding school district special needs center (with Stennett and Ridinger)

  • Providing for early teacher retirement

  • Allowing dessert wines in restaurants with beer/wine licenses (with Clark)

  • Allowing cities to set speed limits on state highways within city boundaries (with Ridinger)

  • Doubling the penalty if domestic abuse is committed in front of a child

  • Creating a misdemeanor citation for curfew violations

  • Enabling legislation to allow counties to bond for open space and wildlife protection (with Kempton)

  • Enabling legislation to allow implementation of a transferrable development right, TDR, effort

  • Creating the Idaho Reading Initiative with a bi-partisan committee

  • Creating the requirement for disclosure for push-poll phone calls

  • Demolishing the Gooding TB hospital (with Stennett, Ridinger, Bell)

  • Establishing mediation as a tool for planning and zoning disputes

  • Creating a tax deduction for the purchase of long term care (with Cameron)

  • Creating an interim study committee on e-commerce (with Newcomb)

  • Introducing legislation to permit cities, counties, and school districts to join state health plan to reduce premium costs.
